When in Doubt, Ask for More, and 213 Other Life and Career Hacks for the Mission-Driven Leader
Biografía del autor
Alex Counts founded Grameen Foundation and became its president and CEO in 1997. A Cornell University graduate, Counts’s commitment to poverty eradication deepened as a Fulbright scholar in Bangladesh, where he trained under Professor Muhammad Yunus, the founder and managing director of Grameen Bank, and co-recipient of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize. Since its modest beginnings, Grameen Foundation has grown to become a leading international humanitarian organization. Counts is the author of two previous books: Small Loans, Big Dreams: How Nobel Prize Winner Muhammad Yunus and Microfinance Are Changing the World, and Changing the World Without Losing Your Mind: Leadership Lessons from Three Decades of Social Entrepreneurship (Rivertowns Books). He has also written numerous articles in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, the Washington Post, and other publications. Today he is an independent consultant to nonprofit organizations and a professor at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland College Park.
Descripción del libro
Leading a nonprofit organization is challenging, stressful work--yet it can also be richly rewarding. Alex Counts mastered the art of mission-driven leadership through decades of trial and error. Now he shares more than 200 of the most powerful lessons he discovered along the way--life and career secrets you'll never learn in school. Frank, quirky, counterintuitive, and ultimately inspiring, these brief gems of leadership wisdom cover topics ranging from people management, fundraising, building a great board, and running effective meetings to honing your speaking skills, surviving a grueling travel schedule, and being generous both to those you work with and to yourself. It's a book that nonprofit professionals will want to browse, reread, and share with friends and colleagues.
Público al que se apunta
People working in the nonprofit world--employees and leaders in charities, foundations, government agencies, faith-based organizations, political and social advocacy groups, and more. Idealistic, hard-working, and often frustrated by the challenges of their work, these people will find that Alex Counts's sage advice can help them get through the day feeling more in control while making a greater impact on the world they seek to serve.

Necesidades de diseño
Small trim size: 5 by 8 inches. This book's contents have an unusual format: 214 tips, one page each, consisting of a headline and about 100 words of explanation. The tips are arranged in alphabetical order according to the headlines. So the reader can flip through the book and read life and career tips presented in random order--a surprise on every page. A few sample tips to show how quirky and intriguing they are: AGENDAS ARE MADE TO BE BENT; BE BOLD, BUT BE GROUNDED; CHECK THE SEAT POCKET ONE MORE TIME; IT’S OKAY TO HAVE A FEW ENEMIES; LOYALTY ISN’T THE POINT; JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION; and YOU’LL NEVER FORGET YOUR SHOES. We'd like a cover that captures this blend of "fun" and "serious wisdom." It should be colorful, creative, and lively, with an informal feeling.
Lo que debe evitarse
Provided below is the cover of Alex Counts's last book. It has a lively and informal feeling, similar to what we are going for here--but please DO NOT use the same kind of cartoon concept. This is a separate, independent book and should look different. ALSO--DON'T MAKE THE COVER LOOK TOO "GOOFY" OR COMICAL. It's off-beat in style but offers serious advice. AND DON'T USE QUESTION MARKS IN THE DESIGN. The word "doubt" in the title doesn't mean this is a book about unanswered questions!

Evaluaciones del cliente
My design was for 'an emotional, standout poetry book cover' and the designs Rebekka created really hit the mark. They are also stunning and intelligently put together. Rebekka is a fantastic, perceptive designer who has great talent as well as an incredible work ethic. She is super responsive, and super patient for someone who is newbie author. I would work with her again - and again! Thank you. You are a superstar.
