Story Something is an immersive storytelling platform for children. Just as Dr. Seuss re-imagined children’s picture books for the Baby Boomers, and Sesame Street transformed television into a storyteller for Generation X, Story Something takes everything we’ve learned about what engages the modern reader’s imagination and combines it with the best game mechanics of the online world to create a new reading experience for children.
We are not simply publishing ebooks, nor are we trying to start a gaming company. Instead, Story Something creates interactive “Storyworlds” for children to explore that combine the narrative of great children’s books with the interactivity of social games and virtual worlds. Think of it as “Madeleine” meets “Mafia Wars” with fewer weapons. Or “Curious George” meets “Club Penguin” without the ice.
The project is the set of initial badges and icons that children will receive for reading stories, solving puzzles, etc. We will be adding additional badges and awards down the road, and we'd like to create an on-going relationship with a designer.
Our target audience are young children ages 3-9 and their parents. We communicate with children and their parents on our website, on the iPhone or iPad, or wherever else they want to read stories. These badges are key to the experience and will be distributed wherever possible.
We really love the simplicity and vibrant colors of the badges created by Foursquare and want to create our own unique set made really fun for young kids. If you are not familiar with the Foursquare badges, please check out these links:
Colors and style should be complementary to the color scheme of the attached screen shot.
