Weiss Capital Partners or Arete Investment Partners
I've been a professional investor for 14 years, and recently started my own one-man firm (Weiss Capital Partners, LLC). This firm manages an investment partnership (aka a hedge fund) that I've named Arete Investment Partners. Per Wikipedia, "arete" is described as "living up to one's full potential”, “virtue“, and “courage and strength in the face of adversity”.
In spite of seeing all the things that can go wrong with investment firms, I'm still an idealist, and I've created a business I can be proud of because it's high-quality and reflects my beliefs, not because it earns a billion dollars a year. Arete has been structured to align my interests with my investors' and it's a partnership in the true sense of the word: If I don't do well for the investors, I don't make a profit. I've instituted several other “best practices” that enforce that sense of partnership as well.
Some important personality traits to convey:
>Independent-minded: I don't follow the heard or care what's popular or trendy. This is reflected in the investments I make for the partnership.
>Ethical: Always do the right thing, even if it hurts in the short-run.
>Value substance over style: If it isn't solid to begin with, no amount of slickness will save it.
>Thoughtful and thorough: I don't make important decisions impulsively.
My current and prospective clients are wealthy and successful individuals who typically place a premium on substance over style. Most of them are friendly, down-to-earth people who are drawn to the unconventional and who are willing to take calculated risks. They are also very intelligent, can smell BS a mile away, and put a lot of value on honesty and integrity.
I'm looking for a logo and style that reflect the concepts and personality traits described above. The partnership/alignment-of-interests idea is the most important, but the independent-minded angle might be nice too.
I generally prefer logos that aren't TOO literal (no dollar signs, stock charts, shaking hands, etc.).
Stylistically, it needs to be clean and professional looking, but not ultra-conservative. Unique is good, but remember that it's an investment company we're talking about. Credibility is a big deal in this industry.
The logo needs to work with both brand names.
Please do not submit something that is similar to something else out there. Many of my potential clients are very savvy, and it would be embarrassing if they made the connection. This is important for my brand, since part of what I'm trying to convey is that my firm is different from most other investment firms, and if my logo is a near-knock-off, it will reflect poorly on me.
The logo will be used in several different applications (business card, PowerPoint, website, PDF), so it needs to be a file type that is compatible with a range of programs without getting distorted.
If there are enough entries, this will be a guaranteed contest. However, I reserve the right to extend it if need be.
I will do my best to give prompt feedback, and will log in multiple times per day.
