Georgia Geospatial Information Office
We are a state level GOVERNMENT entity, the leading authority on MAPMAKING DATA in the state. We handle SPATIAL data. MAPS are very important to us and the people who rely on us, so including the shape of Georgia in the logo is a great idea. We want to see it incorporated. Good keywords to describe how we interact with our target audience: mapmaking, data, information, authority
Another guideline: we have come to the conclusion that we don’t want to incorporate the color red. No red. Unless you have a defensible and symbolically important reason, then we’ll consider it. But, like, blue, green, orange, and black and brown are all superb colors.
Something else: See the NSGIC one? That's quite nice. Nearly everything about it. We like its simplicity, that it communicates what it does, and that it gets the acronym while also including the full, rather cumbersome name.
Last guideline: We’ve got a big, long name, but it’s pretty important to us. We like to see it. Another government agency with a cumbersome name that we think has a neat logo is the Georgia Department of Community Affairs – they use their name in the logo and it still looks nice, right? The most important word in our name is Geospatial. We’ll attach a Department of Community Affairs logo for inspirational fodder.
Final note: I attached the logos of two government agencies that we like. They're quite different, but the "community affairs" logo does agood job of making a long name look good, and the "TNRIS" logo incorporates map-related imagery well. Perhaps you could try to eclipse part of the state shape with our office name.
