EDIT: We are not accepting more entries at this time because I don't have time to give feedback before the contest ends. You can post if you want, but you might not get ratings or feedback. I'm not closing it because I don't know how to do it without awarding the prize.
Logo for new Mac/iPhone software company. A small startup specialized in fun, useful and educational products. We care about freedom and individuality and in creating a relaxed but effective and people-oriented company. We care about that little details that make the difference between a good work and an excellent one.
We need a logo for our new company that is going to be used on the website, on the front page. The website is http://stonefreesoftware.com
Our products range from tools for musicians, productivity tools, developer tools and (hopefully) in the future some other fields, but always in the personal software utility style. We do not make enterprise software.
The name of the company is inspired by a Jimi Hendrix song called ‘stone free’, that talks about freedom and individuality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_Free). We want to contrast with the typical big corporate enterprise software company and create a relaxed but effective and people-oriented company, and we want the logo to reflect that.
As additional info, we run also a Mac developer comunity in our country because we like sharing knowledge and interact with other developers, and one of our core beliefs is that ‘people and individuals are what matters most’.
Our target audience are people that use Mac computers and iPhone, mostly individuals that like to use interesting and fun software, mainly for entertainment and personal life improvement.
For now, PayPal and XOOM.com are the only payment options we can offer.
Because the background behind the company name is of an abstract nature, we are thinking of a logo that is also more abstract than literal. So there’s a lot of freedom there for creativity. EDIT: The graphic or shape should be explainable. Think about what you are trying to convey, think about why would you say if someone asked 'hey, what is your logo about?'. Completely abstract shapes are not easy to explain.
The logo should have the phrase ‘StoneFree’ but hopefully not just words. The logo needs also a place to add the word ‘software’ or ‘community’ as a secondary word.
The logo should communicate the ‘freedom’ and ‘no worries’ feeling but without giving the idea of carelessness or laziness. We prefer simple, clear fonts, and light colors, but we are not designers and are open to suggestions. =)
The logo should look good on dark and light backgrounds, although the current website design has a dark grayscale gradient as background and that will be the immediate use for the logo.
We are thinking of a vector-based logo, and need the original Adobe Illustrator sources.
We are planning to use this web template for the site:
NOTE: the template is the one on the small screenshots. Don’t confuse it with the TemplateMonster.com page design. The logo should look good with that template.
Please make sure the suggested colors match the web design template from http://stonefreesoftware.com.
We prefer an horizontal logo rather than a square or vertical one.
Bolder and rounder, san-serif fonts are preferred.
Excessive formality or elegance.
Nothing computer related, like disks or monitors. We would like also to avoid the typical community ‘small bunch of people’ cliche unless it is represented in a more abstract and attractive way.
Although fun and entertaining, our products are not games, so we don’t want a gamer appeal style as the basis for the logo.
Also, we would like to avoid a flying dove or birds as a symbol of freedom, an abstract play on a wing shape would be fine but it is not required.
