CALICO achieves justice and healing for abused children in Alameda County (California). CALICO, the Child Abuse Listening, Interviewing and Coordination Center, serves as a multi—disciplinary hub of police officers, child welfare workers, and prosecutors that respond collaboratively to child abuse allegations, hear children’s testimonies, and link children and families with vital therapeutic, medical and legal support services.
We partner with child welfare, the district attorney's office and every police department in the county, along with several other organizations. Our goal is to ensure that the children and families are well cared for in investigations into abuse allegations and beyond. In doing so, we make sure kids who have been hurt are not re-victimized, we get the highest quality information to hold offenders accountable and know what steps need to be taken to keep child safe and help the child and family be placed on the road to healing. We see around 700 children a year, ages 2-17, in cases involving sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, drug endangerment, sexual exploitation and witnesses to violence.
CALICO is a nonprofit and is always working to grow its base of supporters through special events and community outreach. Learn more at http://www.calicocenter.org.
