Our website will be a "market place" for UK farmers and their potential suppliers to do business. Farmers need it and suppliers have it and we are going to introduce them to each other! But dont think this will simply be a site that allows one to advertise and the other to view, it will be ground breaking in the way famrers seek supplies and suplliers quote for new business.
Our targets will be every UK farmer and the companies that presently supply them with their required farm related inputs such as feed, seed, fuel, fertiliser etc.
Farmers are very much a "if it aint broke then dont fix it" mentality and stick to what they know works even if it costs them money, however, the industry has undergone a revolution in recent years with the new generation famer (or his wife) taking a different approach, there is now less time to do business over the phone and therefore they rarely seek multiple quotes for supplies due to time constraints.
We are going to introduce them to a way of posting their requirements on the web and let their suppliers come to them and bid for the contract - this may well be seen as a baptism of fire by some so we will comunicate in a language that does not deter them from taking a look!
If we get the farmers on board and using the site then their suppliers will follow - at this point both parties are as important to our wesbite as each other.
Our website is a BUSINESS website, not an entertainment facillity; if the style does not appeal to our "rural" business targets they wont even read the homepage, therefore we DONT want a home page that requires "flash plugins" to operate, or full of flashing lights and videos as this is not what our targets are interested in.
But, we dont want a home page so basic its out of date, our "vision" is a home page that is clear, to the point, easy to navigate, and above all relates to our rural targets in the design and style, that captures the essence of what a farmer is and the purchases he makes - our farmer targets grow crops and livestock, our supplier targets understand their farming customers and customer care is everything and business can be done over a cup of tea in the cow yard - our site needs to capture this and make both parties feel they are still doing business the same old way but with a bit less chat!
The page needs a logo, header with approx 6 menu blocks and a facillity for each of our 2 target users to register, work and comunicate (similar to the "Domestic Solutions" and "Comerical Solutions" sections on the http://www.fordfueloils.co.uk/ homepage).
The following website examples have the type of clarity we are after but dont quite hit our mark! Finally, the back ground will need to be suitable on the subsequent web pages - these pages will also be awarded to the winner!!
