The job needed to be quick and in an easily duplicated style so it could be applied to other photos. I used a mixture of photo posterizing and drawn illustration. Very few parts of this image are raw Photoshop filters, however, as everything needed to be drawn over carefully so that the lines were clean and colors more solid. The chair is fully illustrated.")

I used the state outline as a starting point, drawing an abstract landscape representing Nevada, the landscapes and players in the sustainability field (urban, forestry, water sources, farming, mountains and tourism).")

The map had to be reasonably accurate yet still have a hint of style reflecting the period the book is set in (1500s). Buildings representing several towns the protagonist visited needed to be included, and they had to be correct for c.1500.
Note: this was an initial run-through of the map. A later iteration had details added to Ireland, and some design tweaks.")

The client wanted a vintage style digital painting of two doves where the background can be changed. The doves are not being affectionate, but also not really fighting.")

Certain buildings needed to stand out and be larger than life, with important streets and facilities labelled.

Each illustration is for the start of each chapter, and each chapter is connected to a month of the year. The example here is for January, with some snow/ice on the windows. Each illustration needed to show RW Emerson's study at a different angle, with his famous table/desk always visible.")
